Advocacy Updates & Priorities

Since our inception, WFDA members have been sharing their support for or concerns with Wisconsin statutes and administrative rules that impact our profession. The WFDA is committed to ensuring a stable regulatory environment for our members and fighting for the issues that matter most.

The following policy statements encompass WFDA’s agenda for the 2025-2026 legislative session:

  • Ensure competition for funeral services: Support current anti-combination law for funeral homes and cemeteries.
  • Support Department of Health Services (DHS) initiative for interoperability within the State Vital Records Information System (SVRIS).
  • Support the ease of administration in the Wisconsin Funeral and Cemetery Aids Program.
  • Expand current law on the issuance of cremation permits in deaths that do not require further investigation.
  • Eliminate cremation fees for out-of-state deaths.
  • Personal control of final disposition.
  • Allow vehicles permitted to be equipped with a flashing amber light to also be equipped with a flashing purple light.
