Michael D. Sharkey is a funeral director and attorney who specializes in litigation and mortuary law.  He is General Counsel to both the WFDA and the MFDA.  His presentation will concern legal issues for funeral homes and funeral service practitioners.  Atty Sharkey will discuss recent lawsuits and allegations against funeral homes and crematories, how to avoid a lawsuit, and what to do when your funeral business is sued.  Attorney Sharkey will also discuss the GPL and using it to protect the funeral home’s interests, issues with tissue procurement work, sexual harassment claims, legalities of formaldehyde exposure, and insurance for your funeral business.  Sharkey will also offer tips and ideas for engaging in best practices at the funeral home, including comments and ideas regarding the international ship-out of human remains.
